Note that Age of Empires I does work fine with Windows 7 SP1 in a virtual machine, so I guess it might be due to some conflict with my graphic card's drivers (NVIDIA GeForce GTX660M). What else can I try to solve the issue (without having to run Age of Empires 1 on a different OS, and without having to buy anything else as I have already bought the CD over 15 years ago)? I tried to change the monitor's resolution to 800圆00 (which is the default resolution of Age of Empires I): In dxdiag I checked that all my displays have DirectDraw enabled: I followed the instructions printed on DirectDraw or Direct3D option is unavailable but it didn't work (and they went written for Windows XP, not Windows 7). To locate and remove game files in registry: - Click on Start then type regedit. This is a suggestion and deleting something wrong can cause problems. Lets see if we can remove the aoe3 related entries manually. I tried to change the compatibility mode and run as administrator but it didn't help: Re: Age of Empires 3 wont install properly. Make sure that your video cardĪnd driver are compatible with DirectDraw. After the installation whenever I tried to run the game ( Empires.exe) I get the following error right at the beginning:Ĭould not initialize graphics system. Then computer 1 creates the game, and the you tell computer 2 to search for games using computer 1’s static IP address.I installed Age of Empires I on Windows 7 SP1 圆4 Ultimate. When running the game I now need to select ‘Internet TCP/IP Connection for DirectPlay’, instead of ‘Local (LAN) TCP/IP Connection’. Step 5 – Selecting the right network option within Age of Empires 2. You need to make sure the Age of Empires 2 games on the individual networked computers, are all updated to the same version with the patches.
